Awakening by Ukrainian artist Svitlana Dudenko is a delicate and introspective piece that captures the moment of emergence and renewal through a subtle interplay of abstract forms. Created in 2024, this 40 x 29 cm artwork, executed in acrylic and pencil on paper, presents a minimalist composition that evokes a sense of quiet transformation. At the center of the piece, a soft, glowing form in pale yellow and white emerges from a textured, grayish-blue background, resembling a bud unfurling or a dawn breaking through the mist. This central shape, with its diffused edges, radiates a gentle light, symbolizing the first stirrings of life or consciousness.
Surrounding this focal point are faint, pencil-drawn lines that curve and spiral outward, suggesting the ripples of energy or the unfolding of new possibilities. These lines, light and precise, contrast with the softer, more fluid acrylic washes, which create a sense of depth and atmosphere, as if the scene is suspended in a dreamlike space. The background’s textured quality, achieved through layered brushstrokes, adds a tactile dimension, enhancing the feeling of a world in the process of becoming.
Dudenko’s use of mixed media—acrylic for its softness and pencil for its precision—creates a harmonious balance between the ethereal and the structured, inviting viewers to reflect on themes of rebirth, growth, and the quiet beauty of beginnings. Presented through SmaltaArtGallery, Awakening is a contemplative addition to any collection, showcasing Dudenko’s ability to convey profound concepts through understated elegance.
