Fire, Air, Water, EarthSmalta Art Gallerysd-2025-021-ORMATERIA PRIMA — The Four Elements A visual philosophy of existence, transformation, and the unity of nature. In her four-part series MATERIA PRIMA, Ukrainian contemporary artist Svitlana Dudenko explores the primordial forces that shape our world: Air, Earth, Fire, and Water. The Latin expression Materia Prima, meaning prime matter, evokes the philosophical and alchemical idea of an original substance from which all forms emerge. Through expressive abstraction, rhythmic movement, and a sophisticated dialogue of colors, Dudenko transforms these elemental forces into four distinct yet interconnected visual experiences. AIR — The Poetry of Freedom A luminous composition of turquoise, celestial blue, and delicate pearl-white circles evokes the invisible movement of air. Floating forms suggest breath, freedom, spiritual openness, and the infinite possibilities of existence. EARTH — The Energy of Creation Warm terracotta, crimson, golden yellow, and organic green intertwine in a dynamic landscape of growth. Spiraling lines and flowing structures suggest roots, seeds, and the perpetual regeneration of life. FIRE — The Power of Transformation An explosion of scarlet, coral, pink, and golden tones captures the emotional intensity of fire. Rhythmic brushstrokes and floating luminous fragments embody passion, creative energy, purification, and transformation. WATER — The Rhythm of Eternity Deep ultramarine, turquoise, emerald, and golden reflections create a fluid visual symphony. Sweeping horizontal movements evoke waves, currents, and the endless transformation of water. The Unity of Four Elements Although each painting possesses its own visual identity, the four works form a harmonious conceptual whole. Air represents freedom and inspiration. Earth embodies stability and growth. Fire symbolizes passion and transformation. Water expresses movement and renewal. Together, they reveal a fundamental truth: life emerges through the continuous interaction of opposing yet complementary forces. The series invites viewers to contemplate their connection with nature, the universe, and the invisible energies that shape human existence. With its expressive compositions and sophisticated color relationships, MATERIA PRIMA is particularly compelling as a complete four-piece collection for contemporary art collectors, galleries, and architectural interiors.
